Entrance doors Refurbishment
The client loved the style of their existing entrance doors but were irritated by the draughts and cold air that whistled through them. The cill top surface was flat and worn and would not keep water out.
To add to that, their dogs' excitement to meet visitors was apparent as the inner surfaces of the Rimu doors were badly scratched and eaten.
"Oh, and also, we dont need the letterbox to be functional, we want to change the locks and all the holes from various hardware needs tidying up..."
So we came up with a plan and executed the following:
Frame rebates were routered to an increased depth and a foam perimeter seal grooved in situ.
The doors were then removed, (frame boarded up) and taken back to workshop.
The glazing bars were removed and Two bespoke Double Glazed Argon filled units inserted, with new astragal bars matching the originals.
The lower panels were removed and planed to form the inner skin of the new panels. These were now exterior 6mm ply, 10mm polystyrene and 6mm Rimu,
Recycled Rimu was puchased to laminate to the inner of the doors, and with various holes filled, the out side of the doors were spray finished with Resene Lumbersider, and the interior with Gloss yacht varnish.
The cill was tidied up and fitted with a Raven Storm proof bottom deal and threshold plate.
Doors were then re-fitted with new 'Smart' lock.
